For some reason this morning I thought I'd listen to an old cd on my way to work. Part of my senility is still forgetting I have a cd player in my car, so I can honestly say I seldom use it. This morning though, I popped in some Motley Crue and went merrily on my way.

There is a perverse joy in cruising around at a mere shadow after 6 a.m. blaring bass thumping 80s metal out of a sedate looking family sedan. Even more joy was found in screaming the lyrics along with good ol' Vince Neil. Cruising to work seemed much less a chore whilst belting out "kick start my heart" at the top of my lungs.

I'll admit that at a 4 way stop I did feel a little silly, at my age, doing a slight head bang while giving my impromtue hair band concert. Silly until I thought about how old they are now. A quick trip to MotleyCrue.com and following a few links shows me that ... well ... the fuckers have aged very poorly. Not to mention Vince just got married to yet another stripper looking chick, only this one looks botoxed to the hilt and slightly mannish .... (Seriously, go look for yourself!)

None of the rest have aged well either. Mick had no chance in hell of improving with age since he looked geriatric in the 80s. Nikki Sixx, who I once thought was adorable, now needs to lay off the hair dye. Too harsh on his aging skin. They need a little "Queer Eye for the Crue Guy" happening!

I don't suppose I even want to know what is happening with other bands I liked back in the day. Some (Duran Duran, Poison) are still together and touring. Others, from my pop music stage (Glass Tiger, A-ha) have faded into mere memories. I suppose some members are teaching music and still playing state fairs. Others have settled down in "respectable jobs" and drink themselves silly at night remembering how it used to be when everyone wanted to Wang chung tonight.

On my way home tonight, I will enjoy my flashback to my 20s, sing a few more lines of such classics as "shout at the devil" and pull into the driveway, parking that middle class vehicle of mine. I'll go in the house, greet my boyfriend and my kitty, and once again return to my whitebread world until the metal head diva of my youth decides it needs to break free again.
